WHAT TO EXPECT

I believe the best way to nurture musical talent is to make sure you really enjoy what you do. I want all of my students to enjoy music as much as I do, and tailor lessons to their interests and goals. I have experience with a variety of genres and am able to teach genres such as pop, musical theatre, and classical music. Whilst exams are a useful method of measuring performance level, I do not require students to take exams if they don't want to, as not everyone is suited to them. Instead, I encourage students to do an end of year project or performance. Lessons are generally taught at my home studio in Wimbledon, but home visits can be arranged with a travel fee.

COURSE DETAILS

I offer three types of lessons on piano: long term one to one lessons, small group lessons, and Grade 5 Theory courses for those taking ABRSM exams above Grade 5. You can chose the type of course you want based on your needs and goals. Please see below for details.

Groups

Duet and accompaniment lessons are a great option for social learners, and those that want to learn collaborative musicianship.

These lessons are a fantastic way to improve your performance and musicianship skills. Playing with another performer is a very useful skill for pianists and duet and accompaniment lessons will equip you with the skills needed to become a professional musician.

Typically students are expected to form their own groups, but in the case that a partner cannot be found, I can partner and teach at the same time.

One to One

One to one lessons are the most popular and personal option. In individual lessons we can tailor the lesson to your personal goals and musical tastes.

In these personalised lessons, we will work on a variety of skills such as performance, musicianship, theory, and composition. These skills will help you develop into a well rounded musician.

One to one lessons are typically one hour, once a week. For young students, 30 minute lessons are suggested, with the aim of upgrading once they are ready.

Theory Course

The Grade 5 Theory course is aimed at students taking Grade 6 or above for the ABRSM exam board, or students planning on studying A level or GCSE Music.

There are two options for the course:

- Block of 10

- Block of 5 (a basic knowledge of musical theory is recommended.)

The lessons can be taken once a week or condensed into a period of a few weeks.

Before starting these courses, a short interview will be conducted in order to gauge the students abilities.

FEES AND TRIAL LESSONS

For the trial lesson, a discounted fee of £10 for half an hour is offered. Fees work on a sliding scale depending on the grade and length of the lesson, as well as travel fees where appropriate.
